Why Cleanse Your Liver Your liver works hard for you all year, it is time to show that important organ some love. Spring cleansing is the art of giving your liver a tune-up using dietary changes, herbs, nutritional supplements and/or homeopathics to promote good health.

Health food stores carry numerous cleanses, but it may not be the best for your system and individual needs.

As Naturopathic Doctors we are trained to assess your health and prescribe the right nutritional supplements and remedies. If you have never cleansed before or are not sure what approach is right for your body, seek a professional and get that extra help.

Spring Clean Your Supplements

Take some time to assess your nutritional supplements. Are there some that you are not using, or are you not sure what they are for, or is it even something you should be taking? Throw out any expired bottles, and seek professional advice with these products. As Naturopathic Doctors we are able to advise you on your daily supplement regime and even simplify it. We can guide you on what specific supplements would work best for you.

It is important to care for your body and look after your health to ensure wellness in the long term. You may feel overwhelmed with daily life and feel like there is no time to look after yourself, however, the opposite is true. If we can take the time for health, everything else goes more smoothly.

Start Cleansing with these Simple Steps:

  • Get outside Once the snow melts and temperatures warm up, it is good to exercise outdoors. Walking 30 mins a day and getting some sunlight does wonders to reduce stress and get into the habit of movement. Explore your surroundings and see what is changing in your world.
  • Lemon water Start the day with a squeeze of fresh lemon in one glass of water. This aids in liver cleansing and digestion. If you cannot tolerate lemon or it hurts your teeth, try using liquid chlorophyll instead (1 tsp to 1 glass of water).
  • Consume greens Eat more leafy green vegetables aids the liver in cleansing. Try; dandelion, watercress, nettle, kale, Swiss chard, romaine or butter leaf lettuce. The bitter flavour is important to open the liver and stimulate the release toxins.

In the spring we can have more raw vegetables, including salads and juicing, but due to our cooler climate, you may still want to steam vegetables and make them into soups that act like a tonic for your digestive system.
